For Sunday: Chopin’s “Governess Scherzo”

Click anywhere in this blog and you’ll hear nine minutes’ worth of very good music: Chopin’s Scherzo #2 in B-flat minor, played with elan by Nikita Magaloff.

Franz Liszt, who generally loved Chopin’s music, hated this piece. He called it the “Governess Scherzo,” because (he said) “every governess can play it,”  and he forbade his own students to perform it.

Liszt was a snob.

Enjoy.
