For Sunday: “I Can See Clearly Now,” by Johnny Nash


This is one of the few songs that makes me really happy. It’s all bright sunny imagery, sung by a guy with a pure mellow voice over a simple cheerful rhythm, with one of those background choirs that sings in exactly the right places.

 

And the chord progression at the end of the bridge makes me shiver every time: “Look straight ahead, nothing but blue skies . . .”

    I love this song for lots of reasons. I used to sing it to my little boys when they were quite young because… wait for it! It is one of the few songs I can actually sing fairly well. Sadly I don’t have a great singing voice but there are a few songs I can manage and this is one of them. Thank you for reminding me of it.
