For Sunday: the Kinks sing “Village Green Preservation Society”

village green preservation society

This song goes out dedicated to two of my friends:

–         Joanne, in Connecticut, who (literally) introduced me to the Kinks one dark evening in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1978;

–         Oma, in England, who actually lives in an English cottage.

All together now:

We are the Village Green Preservation Society,

God save Donald Duck, vaudeville, and variety.

We are the Desperate Dan Appreciation Society,

God save strawberry jam and all its different varieties.

  1. I’m actually on the Redding Preservation Society; lol. We’re more about preserving historic houses and barns, but our ‘village green’ is preserved as well. We have bad Sunday concerts there in the summer with scores of white New Englanders and their children dancing about.

    • I’m in touch with a very nice person who lives in Luton, northwest of London; she lives in a cottage, and she has a village green and everything. She just wrote to say that she didn’t dare listen to the song, because it was one of her favorites, and it would end up going through her head for two or three days if she listened to it.

      But it’s all your fault. You introduced me to the Kinks, after all.

  2. One of my favourite songs ever. So catchy it once played in my mind over and over for two days and nights. So do I dare listen to the video?
